Spring is coming so it’s time to make plans for your gardens. Do your plans include water protection efforts? Would you like to implement a raingarden? The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) is proud to partner with the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) to offer raingarden workshops at three recreation centers.
The workshops, led by Metro Blooms, will be held:
• Tuesday, March 16, 6:30 p.m. at Lynnhurst Recreation Center, 1345 Minnehaha Pkwy. W
• Saturday, May 1, 10 a.m. at Longfellow Recreation Center, 3435 36th Ave. S
• Saturday, May 22, noon at Audubon Park, 1320 29th Ave. NE
“We’ve joined forces with a number of partners to offer learning opportunities for people who want to take action to improve and protect our lakes and creeks,” said Julie Westerlund, MCWD Education and Communications Manager.
The workshops are open to the public. The fee is $10; registration is required. For registration and more information about other clean water workshops in the Twin Cities, visit www.minnehahacreek.org.
The workshops are part of the MPRB’s commitment to educate the public about a healthy environment. Water quality education includes naturalist programs and the Earth Day Watershed Cleanup held every April. In addition, MPRB’s environmental stewardship includes lake, river, stream and beach monitoring, and development of water management plans, such as the Diamond Lake Management Plan.
Metro Blooms is an organization made up of member gardeners and community volunteers dedicated to ecologically-friendly gardening education that beautifies neighborhoods and protects the environment.
The MCWD protects, improves and manages water resources, runoff and related natural resources for 129 lakes, eight major creeks and thousands of wetlands located within the 181 square mile watershed of Minnehaha Creek and Lake Minnetonka, in partnership with 29 communities, other agencies and concerned citizens.
